Jesus told his first disciples, “As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you” (John 20:21). As followers of Jesus today, we stand in this same lineage. You’ve been sent with a purpose! The “where” will look different for each of us. Some of you have been sent into your workplaces and neighborhoods; others will be sent to help start new churches and outreaches across town; some may be sent to give your lives to serve Christ’s Kingdom in another city or even another country. What’s clear is this: as the Father sent Jesus, even so Jesus is sending us to live on His mission! Locations vary, but our mission is the same. Are you living with this kind of purpose today?
On Sunday, the LifePoint family had the opportunity to hear from our newest mission partners about what it means for them to live sent. The Hetzlers (Chuck, Karen, and their four children: Nathaniel, Nico, Annalise, and Amari) are leaving Quincy today (Monday; July 2nd) to put down roots in Manhattan, New York. They aren’t doing this for their own sense of adventure. They aren’t doing this to make a name for themselves. They are moving to NYC because they have been sent by God. Being sent calls us to respond with big faith in a BIG GOD! If you missed Chuck’s message, be sure to watch on the LifePoint App (download here) or online (watch here). I hope that you were challenged by their story, and encouraged by hearing their heart for God’s work in NYC.
*Please continue to pray for Chuck and the Hetzler family! Pray for God’s grace and provision in housing, finding the right schools for the kids, and making many connections with their new neighbors.
*Pray also for the church plant. Bethesda Grace Church will officially launch in September, but there is a lot to do between now and then. Pray for a strong and committed core team, for opportunities to engage the city, and for many people who need the gospel to join in what God is doing there.
*As the church plant takes root, join us in brainstorming ways to encourage and support the Hetzlers and the Bethesda Grace community. Perhaps God would use you to encourage the Hetzlers (send cards, care packages, and notes of encouragement!), to connect with a friend or contact in NYC with Bethesda Grace, or help form a future mission team serving in NYC. Maybe God is even calling someone from among us to commit to two-years living intentionally in NYC as a part of this young church (that would be an “only God” thing – but that’s just like Him, isn’t it?).
*Most importantly, LifePoint, as we consider what God has done in the Hetzler family, I pray that you will be asking: “God, how have you sent me?” May we live with the same conviction, the same purpose, and the same mission – whether you’ve been sent to NYC, to Kolkata, across town, or across the office. I don’t know much… but I do know this: If you are a follower of Jesus, you have been sent. LifePoint, may we live sent!
